One of my most treasured times of the day for me is the early morning. I am a morning person by nature. I have always loved the quiet of the house, the sounds of silence. It is at these times my mind seems so much more alert. This is when I reach for my Bible, my current study or devotional, my prayer lists and my cup of hot coffee with milk and sugar.

I have grown to love this time so much that I wake up eager to begin. It has not always been so easy for me. I use to get up and begin to think of my day and my plans and occasionally would take the time to spend reading the Bible. I read a book by Elizabeth George that inspired me to take this time more seriously. I began praying that the Lord would put a hunger in me for time with Him. I am so thankful to say that He has answered that prayer greater than I could have imagined.

Today I understand what it is to sit at the feet of Jesus and soak up His goodness and glory. I long for that each morning. If I get up late and miss this time, it affects my entire day. I desire to begin each day with Him because it is only in this way that my heart is focused on the tasks in my life that He has given me. I am ever aware of His presence giving me strength through out the whole day.

I think the most important part of this time with Jesus, is that it becomes what is special between Him and me. I have done many different things during this time such as reading through the Scriptures in a year or Bible studies or devotionals. I don’t think it matters as much what is done as just making the steps to do something with the Lord each day. Praise music is good, but again I love the quiet. I write Scriptures that the Lord gives to me during these special times, on 3x5 cards and memorize them and pray these Scriptures for myself and others as the Lord leads. I write many of my prayers down in a journal. Right now I am praying for specific Scriptures for my children so I can effectively pray for them. This early morning time has become a personal sweet time at the feet of my Savior!

Here are a few favorite Scripture verses that talk about seeking after the Lord.

Isaiah 55:6 Seek the Lord while He may be found, all upon Him while He is near.

1 Chronicles 28:9 ……and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you;…..

Psalm 63:1 O God, You are my God; Early will I seek you; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.

I have prayed this psalm for myself asking the Lord to give me a flesh and a soul that longs for Him, and I believe He has more than answered this one!

These Scriptures, for me, are great encouragement to seek Him and to know that I will find Him!

Here are some wonderful resources to help and encourage you in your quiet time.

But, for me, over time, the greatest encouragement and joy in Him has come from His WORD!!!! Just to open the Bible and read, it is the very best method I know for spending time with HIM

Quiet Time Journaling

Over the years I have loved keeping a journal. Sometimes my journal has been a prayer list so I could remember to pray for those near to me, sometimes it has been a place write out my heartfelt cries to the Lord and a place to remember answered prayer and praises. Sometimes I have written my dreams/goals/desires and it has been a place to put treasured Scripture verses. And often my journal is simply a peek into my daily life, something I hope my children and grandchildren will read many years from now. I guess you could say my journals are a unique combination of all of the above.

I would encourage anyone who desires to keep a journal to begin doing this today. It is not hard; a pretty note book will work. I have a box of various sized notebooks that have served as my journals from years past. I keep them all. Pick up your pen and notebook and begin writing.. anything you would like. Once you begin to make daily journaling a part of your routine you will see just how simple it is to do this.

To help you get started in journaling I have a few articles from different ladies that will give you some ideas and thoughts to think about.
